Credit Crunch Free Zone

Necker Island see post further down its arrived in the wrong place!!!

Well the knitting book has arrived. Only the wool and needles to go now. Thought I would start with a teeny weeny monster knitted thingy for my young nephew. My family are laughing at me... well I can't play the piano anymore due to the EDS, so have to be able to do 'something' with my hands. I think I shall have to wear my splints for left hand and see how I get on with the right. Its funny what one ends up writing on a blog, banale and boring is the first thing that comes to mind when I dare read my few meagre entries. Can't take my own sweatshirts off by myself but whoever said I can't should have gone on my pain management course.... achievable tasks were the order of the day and if its the only bit of knitting I ever do I am determined to make the weeny knitted monster! If I ever do it I shall post a picture of it here I think. For no other reason than I can look back and rate it as an achievement! Nothing like setting yourself achievable goals,, no changing the world, or fighting for rights for the disabled me, just monster knitting.

Missing Bendy Girl's blogging immensly. (sp)

Its that weird time of year when my sleeping patterns are awry, awake when I should be asleep and vice versa. If I was rich I would spend the winter in sunnier climes. So this is where I start dreaming and actually use this one for pain distraction/visualisation.... have to look at the picture above and imagine though as am utter crap at visualisation! Not the best picture of the island I can't afford to go to but I like the look of the cushions.... Its good for visualisation as I can imagine myself lying comfortably without pain I add on them, having the tacticle connection seems to help. The picture is up there and the writing about it down here humph. note to self, think before you hit that button that sends stuff.

Am also finding myself wondering about life generally, in my forties now I am having a pretty contented time inside my head, I care less about what people think of me, I am happy to just be me. I may be a physical wreck (an advantage of EDS is that no-one can really tell that) until you fall over, or they question you too much about activity outside of the home! I do find myself wondering whether I should cave in and just sit in a wheelchair, now the problem with this is that it would have to be a power one as could not self propel, am slightly concerned that if I do that I will never get out. Can't use sticks, as hands won't allow, can;t use crutches as weight bearing on shoulders like mine is no good, elbows would undoubtedly join in for good measure too. So I carry on - perhaps I should try one day when I am on my own with a shopmobility scooter as it would be nice to get further than one shop without having to say thats me done for the day. Ever supportive husband who is my leaning post and potato masher (the potato masher is a joke between BG and me) so if I refer to my other half as The Potato Masher you will know to whom I refer. However I digress, OH says if we walk any slower when we go out we will be standing still, I am finding that I do not go out alone if I can at all help it, its a dangerous business,, windmill arms when backbending knees lose centre of gravity,, windmill arms is something that EDSers will be familiar with, its a technique developed to try and prevent falling over backward, manic windmill motions in arms can sometimes prevent a very nasty fall. When this happens and knees dislocate at the same time then things go very wrong indeed as hips and is it SI joints join in, followed very often by an ankle that has been put out by the general disturbances and decides to turn and lay the foot sideways but flat on the floor. Actually this is also a photo I could provide but had not thought of taking one whilst actually in that position with all these bodily parts awry. Another advantage I suppose of being extremely hypermobile is possibly having the ability to take a photo whilst in the akimbo position described by the scenario described. So husband is used to giving the impression to the world that actually I am holding myself up when it is actually him, with a technique to die for developed over years of noticing that this is just about to happen often even before i Do. At other times I can say AM GOING and he gets there just in time. To the world we look like any other loving couple... at least thats what his reassuring words tell me. So back to the wheelchair thing,, don't fancy him pushing me about in one, so shall have to ponder on some more on this one. Seriously though it would mean I may get out more.

Well I am off now having once again twittered on about nothing,, also it feels quite selfish just going on about me. I shall have to think about how to post, some witty, little snippets,, I don't like to post about people I know as this is the internet and you never know do you? I could post I suppose on current affairs mmmm if I say credit crunch on here, again apart from then, I will dissappoint myself. For me this space is a CC unch free zone. Somewhere has to be free of it, doesn't it?

Well I must have imagined writing the post I made the other night! It is definately not here.

This post is for me to remember that EDS and long train journeys to London do not mix!! Great to go to UCHL to see the eminent Professor who is always overwhelming with his kindness. But early appointment for daughter meant arriving in London for the rushour. Good grief, how do people do it. Today, my body has laughed at my stretcy collagen making a big joke out of it all. Jokes aside, topped up to the hilt with extremely strong pain relief made me able to function yesterday, today at home, my pain has escalated to levels that go beyond funny.

On the home front, I have been married so long now that other half and I just bumble along nicely together. Tonight he was however not good to be around, everyone is entitled to a bad mood but all evening humph, it made no difference if I kept quiet, voiced my opinion all of it was wrong. Hey ho lets hope tomorrow is better.

I have sent off for a book, now I can hear anyone who is even vaguely bothered to read this dumb blog of mine laughing when I say what its about. Learn how to knit.... now years ago I knew how but seem to have forgotten. I ordered this book over the internet the other night, having listened to a programme on radio 4, about how a pain management group took up knitting as a distraction with fantastic results. Got all inspired and thought great that will be a good distraction, having attended a pain management course some time ago am always looking for distractions which are more productive than the good old .. watch a dvd etc.. my hands find holding a book a little much and being a stubborn old bint really cannot 'sit' correctly and use a book holder which is apparently what I am suppossed to do. Wish me luck, can't hold a mug, without a thumb, finger dislocation, wrist backbend that alarms people but my enthusiastic web wonderings convinced me that I will be able to knit ha ha. I am determined, so will see how I get on with knitting with splints and oramoroph etc. Well I am a great believer in Radio 4, so simply must give it a go. Only thing is I chose the slow mail option for delivery to save money and am hoping by the time the bloody book arrives I still have the same enthusiasm.

Am missing bendy girl on benefitscroungingscum's blog and hoping she is hooked up to broadband soon. With the recent weather and her move to windy city I am worried she is ensconsed in her flat for fear of doing a mary poppins. apologies for lack of capitals, seriously dodgy hands this week so capitals difficult. and here's me thinking of knitting.......

I am off now as I can see this post deteriorating into further bla bla blaaaaaaaaaaa bfn

Thursday, 8 January 2009

Well here I am, having just read benefitscroungingscum post on her coin operated electric meter and the saga of just trying to sort out how to make it useable! In the words of Victor Meldrew..... I just can't believe it.

I am also awake when I should be asleep, so really writing for my own benefit. I have EARACHE. No one else is awake so I thought I would shout here. When I was a child my mother used to send me to stay with her mum if I was unwell, as she worked & its cruel to leave a sick child alone all day. My gran used to warm flannels to put agaisnt my ear. Sadly she is no longer with us. Earache hurts and it makes me miss my gran. middle aged sulk occuring. We don't do flannels in our house, is that bad? So can't even self help. Moan Over on EARACHE.

I think I am addicted to Horlicks, I like the malt horlicks, we ran out yesterday and I found myself quite panicy about it. I didn't really feel OK until I went out and bought some today.

Ehlers Danlos is rubbish some days, when one has a stupid bug, it has to join in. Sublucates today go,,, knee X about 20, thumbs, little fingers, hip, si joints.... I am even boring myself with the list.

Good thing today was out to lunch with daughter, we sat and ate good food by a roaring fire in local hostelry..... I only embarrassed her mildly today when I choked on a piece of parsley... some with EDS will know that random choking is a regular occurence. note to self.. concentrate when eating, actually thats probably why I have EARACHE I probably have parsley in my ear. BG if you are reading this my guess is you will agree. Actually change that to twice, my bendy fingers don't cut food too well, so I chose whitebait which is sufficiently small as not to need a knife and fork, daughter was mortified as I greedily ate with fingers. She has EDS also and so asking her to cut up my food is a step too far when cutting her own is painful. In the end we agreed that we were both equally embarrasing as she only randomly dropped one drink due to EDS for some reason hands let go of drinks with no warning. Sometimes they just tip all over the floor when a thumb dislocation allows them to elegantly tip as though an invisible fairy with a naughty streak is actually in charge. Fortunately we were sitting on a very comfy leather sofa so no smashed glass, the pub dog slurped away merrily, ice cubes n all. (It was not an alcoholic drink by the way I hasten to add) as heard on the news today about a bull mastiff's owner who has just been prosecuted for giving his, 3/4 of a can of strong lager plus doing something else I can't remember. He has been fined and banned from keeping a dog for a year. I have animals and love them dearly but do have a staffie who would eat & drink anything given half a chance. His bed is checked daily for stolen morsels, the contents of which vary enormously.

Feeling quite proud that I am not obsessing about spelling.

OK thats me done.
