Lightweight with the e-motion powered wheels.
If you are reading BG - I wonder if you think this would be viable with hand/shoulder and the in-between bits issues with EDS?
I reckon if wheelchair services provided these they would in fact end up cheaper than the big bulky models they favour?
Having looked at some of the other options my head is spinning now and fancy some country parks and proper offroading - the options are out there. How come wheelchair services still live in the dark ages.
My preference I think would be for the E-motion (see details below).
description below from website - funky or what.
E-motion power wheels fitted turning a self propelling wheelchair into a power wheelchair, Ask for a free quotation.
E-Motion powered wheels E-motion reduces manual effort up to 80%. Simply maneuver as a manual wheelchair. Applying pressure to the push-rims engages the power-assist motors to help you with your everyday travels. If you are not ready for a power chair, but have worn out shoulders at the end of the day and would like to benefit from motor assistance, then try e-motion powered wheels and feel the difference for yourself! *(at the end of the day ha ha ha)
With e-motion powered wheels on your manual wheelchair you can conquer steep hills and ramps with ease, go longer distances without becoming tired or achy, and be more active.
80% less effort than self propelling - would I be able to push enough I ask myself.

This is what my GP was talking about and he said 'S.............' they should provide one like this. I will look forward to your feedback on wheelchair services! He knows me well and knows that despite the fact that I will no doubt not get very far with an appropriate powered chair as 'he' has deemed necessary and told them so! I will give them a run for their money.
I have I must admit thought about cancelling the whole assessment - but as there is a waiting list anyhow I am sure I may muster up some gumption to challenge some of their seemingly archaic working practice!
Despite the fact that the GP has already told wheelchair services that this type of wheelchair would be suitable my guess is that this particular service provides -fuck off chairs that don't fit in normal sized houses! Is there a whole load of people out there relying on carers to push them about when really if WCS moved with the times things would be different. Or people getting indoor power chairs which because the rules state they have to in order to eventually get an inside/outside chair. I fear I am repeating myself now. I promise I won't post about wheelchairs for a while yet as you may guess they are on my mind a little right now.
Steph - thank you for your comment - I could not agree more!
BG - Please do let me know if your local wheelchair services department has changed at all and how you get on. I don't think my house is big enough either for a power chair - in fact I am not sure many people's are.
I have a feeling that I may have to do that thing I abhor for so many reasons and beg parents for a loan.............
Just to say if you have stumbled across my blog and are thinking arghhhhh she's a seriously negative human being. In reality I am not. I am actually pretty grounded and I laugh and sing daily its just I can write stuff here and get it out of my head in turn enabling me to cope with life in a positive way. Its only a blog afterall and its mine so I can write what Iike as long as its not causing offence or hurting anyone. There are so many blogs out there that if its not your cup of tea thats fine by me, there is plenty more out there.
Moving swiftly on.......

I don't know if we'd manage the power assisted chairs or not, but I intend to try and get wheelchair services to supply one so I can find out! Mind you, having been defeated by their stubborn adherence to utterly nonsensical rules before now I'm not holding out *that* much hope.
Buying a 2nd hand scooter has frankly been a complete pain in the arse. But, if I lived with an able bodied person who had even basic DIY type skills all the hassle with batteries etc would've been sorted out months ago. TBH, that's what I'd try and do in your situation. I know you live in a fairly rural area - I think my scooter will get most use just pootling around the promendade, local parks etc, I'd certainly use it to pootle round country lanes. You should be able to pick up a scooter for a couple of hundred pounds and new batteries can be sourced relatively cheaply. If you want the least psychologically damaging, most inexepensive solution then a 2nd hand scooter is it for now. Size wise mine isn't perfect but now some nice twitter person told me how to adjust the handlebars it's fine. Being able to get off and on the scooter and move around in the seat suits my petite wiggly frame much better than the more stable sitting position of a wheelchair.
Hope some of that ramble helps & look forward to hearing about your experiences withwheelchair services! BG Xx

You're not repeating yourself or being negative, you're simply in E-motion! :)
I love those Da Vinci trail trikes and just look at the range of frame colours!
Having said that, I'm sure it's like torture knowing that these are available, yet out of reach.
Would you consider organising a local fund raiser or maybe even an online appeal?
BG - your input is invaluable always and please do get a power assisted chair for feedback it looks just the ticket to me. I just don't understand the stubborn adherence to utterly nonsensical rules either. Befuddled I am.
I do live with an able bodies person who is a complete pain in the arse (sorry I read that wrong lol) he does have very good basic diy skills but anything with a motor gets him running in the other direction. Daughter steps out with a mechanic but one never knows with daughter's......
I think a second hand scooter may be an option for rural road stuff and then relying on shopmobility for local town.... Although I do yern for independence. I am sure the e-motion would fit in my car and even if I couldn't get it out or in myself I am absolutely sure with begging a stranger would help. Its so hard because my parents kindly bought me my little car and I need the DLA for warmth and stuff. Not trying to be I can't sort of person but I know me and a great big bus with a ramp type of car would be hell for me and my idiosyncracies!
Wheelchair services options does not help on those days when getting across the kitchen is a mount everest thing but perhaps I feel sorry for myself or something. I don't understand about the inside mega power chair and people that live in houses of small proportions - do only flat or bungalow people comply with the environmental assessment or have I misunderstood I wonder. What about when upstairs - thought I was mad before wcs got involved in my life now I no I am> Sorry for bla bla but life is a little bla bla right now.
Your input BG helps keep me sane you do know that don't you.
Still want an e-motion and yes Steph so near yet so far.
Steph - I hate to say this but I am really not a local fundraiser or online appeal type of girl. Far too socially phobic I am afraid on line and off. Hence no photo and no real name lol. Its a good idea but truly not my style. Good idea though.
Sucky thing I see with scooters is they can't go on public transort unlike a wheelchair, so they're good for local area like the corner shops, but not for getting any further afield.
Good luck!
Why must things be so hard? I am sitting here just shaking my head in disbelief.
bloody bureacrats.
Hi Fiona,
I take your point wholly. Thing is we don't have a local shop or public transport!
Kim, I am actually thinking of cancelling the whole thing its just stressing me out too much.
Well...I'm late to this one.
Did you cancel or move forward? (no pun intended)
=)
